Netanyahu to Hold Talks with Trump in Washington Over Iran Talks

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to hold talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday, with discussions expected to center on ongoing negotiations involving Iran, according to official statements.

In outlining Israel’s position, Netanyahu’s office stressed that any diplomatic process must address broader security concerns, stating: “The Prime Minister believes any negotiations must include limitations on ballistic missiles and a halting of the support for the Iranian axis.”

The planned meeting follows the resumption of indirect nuclear discussions between Iran and the United States on Friday, after a period of intensified tensions sparked by warnings of potential military action from Washington.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi characterized the renewed engagement as a “good start,” indicating that further progress would depend on easing deep-rooted mistrust between the parties. He added that there was agreement to continue the dialogue and that future rounds could take place in Muscat, Oman.

Araghchi also reaffirmed Tehran’s stance on its military capabilities, saying Iran’s missile program is not open to negotiation now or in the future, describing it as a “defensive matter.”
